How to make sure you're stressed out this holiday season in 3 steps:

Here are 3 great ways to make sure you don't enjoy the holidays...

1. Don't prioritize your sleep.

2. Drink coffee like it's a personality trait.

3. Skip your MFR appointment...even though you KNOW Uncle Charlie is going to run up your last nerve.

The holiday season is upon us, which means a busy schedule full of more obligations than usual. Your body will feel the stress of extra holiday parties, family events, and limited sleep. It’s easy to grab coffee, power through, and crash when the new year comes.

Your body is so smart and craves routine to keep things in balance. It wants healthy food, movement, water, and proper rest. Travel, holiday plans, and even stressful family members disrupt these routines, which can leave your body sounding alarms that something is wrong.

So what can you do to avoid burnout during this season?

Here are my 3 tips:

  1. Prioritize rest. As simple as it sounds, make sure you’re getting enough well deserved sleep. The long nights are designed to slow down and rest. Since your body loves routine, you may need to have an accountability partner, such as a friend or spouse who makes sure you’re getting to bed at the same time each night.

  2. Stay hydrated. Your normal diet will likely differ during the holidays, and you may find yourself eating things you would not normally eat and reaching for more coffee or even alcohol than usual. Keep yourself hydrated with extra water throughout the day to avoid any headaches that might happen from dehydration.

  3. Don’t skip MFR appointments. It’s easy to tell yourself that you can start taking care of yourself at the beginning of the year, but now is a really important time to keep up the good work. You’ve spent the first half of the year working on the tension in your neck and shoulders and stress of the holiday season can cause symptoms to return especially if you have to travel or have stressful family members to deal with. Schedule appointments before and after and long trips to help with any flare ups that might arise from sleeping in different beds or long flights.

The holiday season is meant to be spent with family and friends, and dealing with pain, headaches, or burnout is no way to celebrate. Prioritize your health with myofascial release appointments and feel less stiff and stressed, and more ready to enjoy the special moments.
